Buggy 2.0 Software!

August 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Okay look, 2.0 is the best mobile software out there. On the other hand, basic functions on iPhone (calling, texting, internet, landscape to portrait, etc.) are all extreme chores. I am seriously considering downgrading 1.1.4, if 2.1/2.01 doesn’t come soon. Are you having the same problems? Spill the beans in the comments.

More Cool/Free iPhone Apps

August 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Although I still stand on my former article on my favorite iPhone Apps, here are a few more free iPhone Apps I’ve tried and still use.

1. WeatherBug- This is a great app, and I was shocked it was free. It’s basically a Weather application (obviously) that not only gives you a temperature forecast, but also Humidity, Heat Index, Wind Velocity, Wind Direction, Gust Velocity, and even Dew Point. The second portion is a Google Maps Radar and shows you storms all around the globe and which direction they’re heading. The third portion is web-cams from near your location so you can physically “see” the weather near you. As an added bonus, the App provides “Active Alerts” which show up on the app even when your on the home screen in the form of a little “1″. The Active Alerts can consist of Droughts, T-Storms, Snow, etc. Great app, worth $10 to me.

2. Palringo Instant Messenger- Palringo Instant Messenger is the first multi-client IM app to come to the App Store. It’s free just like the standard AIM app, but on Palringo it’s better because you can see all your buddies on every client. Not only that, but as an added bonus you can send photos from your iPhone’s Camera Roll. Simple, easy, works, free.

3. 1Password- This self-explanatory free application keeps up with all your passwords in one simple way, has an optional 2 layers of password protection on your passwords. Free. Get it?

So, those are some Apps to fill up your new 8/16GB iPhone. Try em. If you have any tips, questions, comments, concerns, you can tell me at tylerhaze@gmail.com.

New Macs/iPods By September?

August 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Lots of websites, such as Giz, Macrumors, and Engadget are claiming that we’ll have new Macbooks and iPod Nanos in Septmeber. It’s just a rumor, but is still a pretty good bet that they’ll come. I believe that Apple will redesign their Nano again to have a skinny sideways wide screen, and the Macbooks will have glass multi-touch trackpads. But who knows, what do you think?

iPhone 3G, White or Black?

July 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Now, this has been a on going debate since June 9th, but is still valid as the 3G hasn’t even been out a month. After handling both the black and the white for more than a week or so, I would say the White wins the battle. The black looks much better at first, sleek and glossy, but as time takes it toll it receives more fingerprints and smudges than the screen. The white looks new even a week or so after purchase. Plus, it shows every one you plunked down more money for the 16GB. The white one is much more exclusive, stays clean, and just comes off as classy.

That’s just my opinion, if you have other views or maybe you just agree with me, just shoot some comments and tell me what you think.

5 Coolest iPhone Apps

July 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

There are almost 1,000 apps now in the new 2.0 software App Store. But, aside from all the stupid and pricey apps there are a few gems that anyone with an iPhone needs to check out.

1. Super Monkey Ball- it may be $10, but is still a cool app. It takes some getting used to, but it is now the standard for iPhone gaming

2. Midomi-awesome app that I could’ve used many times in my life while at a party or an event. It basically has four ways for you to find a song or band your looking for. By saying the title or band, singing the bit of the song you know, grabbing it when a song is playing off of a speaker, or by (if your last century) typing it.

3.Remote-developed by Apple themselves, its a simple way to control your iTunes. Free

4.AIM- I know, I know, it crashes, it’s buggy, but when we get that background processes from the AIM severs, this app will be amazing

5. Phonesaber- Its simple, it’s awesome, and if your a Star Wars fan it’s a must have. I would buy it for $5 but it’s free

Why iPhone Will Rule the World

July 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Okay, maybe not the world. But it will dominate the cell phone market for years to come. The reasons behind my fanboy-esque thinking, are as follows:

  • There’s something for everyone, business users, gamers, music fans, apple fanboys, etc. etc.
  • It’s a mac in your hand: e-mail support, web clips, widgets, games, full web browsing, the works
  • iPhone games are better than most portable gaming systems! And it’s not even made for that purpose, granted it takes some getting used to with the accelerometer.
  • The App Store. There’s an App for everyone, even science geeks and bankers
  • Its a damn good looking phone. Look at the iPhone vs [any other phone here], it looks better. Even 1st Gen iPhones still get second looks from random people. Again, its a Mac in your hand, because even the old PowerBooks look good
  • Touch Screen UI combined with all these Apps. No one wants physical buttons anymore
  • And lastly, if you don’t have an iPhone, you want an iPhone. And if you don’t want one, name something better.

iPhone 3G…the Masses Appear Before Dawn

July 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We arrived outside the mall at 5am, expecting to see a small line until the Apple Store inside opened up at 8am. What we saw, wasn’t what we expected.

We were 120th or so in line, at 5am, at around 7am, 100-200 more people arrived.

Then at around 7:10 or so, some douche-bag mall-owner guy came up and told us to put away lawn chairs and tents, which totally discouraged laptop use. He also told us that at 7:30, we would be allowed inside the mall to wait beside the apple store. He was wrong, we didn’t get in until around 7:45.

Then, when the Apple Store opened it’s doors to all ye faithful of the JesusPhone 3G, the line began to move with about 50 people in the Apple Store at once.

Then once we edged closer towards the Apple Store, things seemed to slow down. This was due to the tards over at AT&T whose servers “weren’t prepared” (what happened to the time between June 9th and July 11th????) for the vast expanse of data users in the upcoming day. We stayed in a spot near the Apple Store from 9:30 until 11.

So finally at around 12:30 or so, we reach our destination (sick & tired of line-sitting I might add), the heavenly packed Apple Store. We get our phones from a teal-clad apple guy/dude and he sets us up.

So after purchasing them, it took us at least 45 tries to get all our phones activated without error. but after that, all was fine in the world of Tyler Haze and the reiteration of the JesusPhone was in our hands. Un-boxing and hands-on in a bit!
